Today's Festival Fashion Was Inspired By These Babes...

Music festivals are all the rage these days. From Burning Man and EDC, to Coachella and Lollapalooza. The clothes worn are a lot of "Retro" hippie and Bohemian styles that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s.

I thought it would be fun to show you these festival fashion styles worn back in the day, by some of the popular actresses and musicians of that era.

FLOPPY HAT:

Singer and songwriter, Carly Simon was known for wearing floppy hats. This picture was taken in 1972. And this is a current trend, as we see on Vanessa Hudgens.

CROCHET:
Raquel Welch was a late 1960s and 70s sex symbol. She's one of my style icons and today at 74 years young is still rocking it and fabulous! This picture of her is from her wedding in 1967. I absolutely loveeee the crochet look and think it's a fun style that can be dressed up or down.

BELL SLEEVES:
A popular style that has made a revival are bell sleeves. When wearing this style sleeve, you feel flow-y and if you're like me, you want to flap your arms up and down a few times like a bird. :P

JUMPSUIT:

Beverly Johnson was an influential woman in the fashion industry in the 1970s. She paved the way for many black models by being the first African American to appear on American Vogue, as well as the first black woman to appear on Elle magazine. Here she is in a stunning purple jumpsuit. She has a new memoir that just came out, The Face That Changed It All: A Memoir

FRINGE:
Both fringe and crop tops are extremely trendy right now. Priscilla Presley is of course best known for being married to the king of rock and roll, Elvis. She had amazing style and I've always wanted her flawless hair.

FLOWER CROWN:

While Janis Joplin may have had unruly hair, she had a raspy, one of a kind voice. Janis performed at many venues, including the infamous music festival, Woodstock in 1969. Here she is donning a flower crown. And on the right is the adorable Bella Thorne.

If you are looking for boho chic/festival attire and haven't been to Boohoo.com before, you should stop what you're doing and check it out. Everything is reasonably priced and there are always sales. You can even shop by trend or time period.

Are you a fan of the hippie and bohemian revival? Any suggestions on what I should blog about next?

Until next time!

  1. This reminds me of my obsession with old pattern books. What I like about your post is that you show how to adapt and interpret a look! I LOVE the hippie-bohemian revival. I think next time, you should visit mixing high end (dare I say couture or designer) with lower end affordable. That would be FUN!!!:~) Keep blogging. You're onto something.

  2. I went to this place with local friends and we had a blast here. The long happy hour definitely ensures a full upstairs, but I'd recommend the quieter downstairs at LA event venues to enjoy your stuffed burger and fries!

  3. Wow, cool post. I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real hard work to make a great article… but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though. adult books
