September Shenanigans: Sophia Loren and Some Sewing

Happy Monday!

I had the pleasure of seeing Sophia Loren speak on September 14 at the Detroit Opera House.

As you may know, I'm a lover of all things Old Hollywood. So, seeing the legend that is Ms. Loren in person, was a pretty exciting experience.

Here is some of what I learned from Sophia's talk:

  • She's very shy.

  • Her mother won a Greta Garbo look alike contest

  • While on the set of Pride and the Passion, she got to know Frank Sinatra. Not knowing much English, he taught her profanities. He told her it was proper English.

  • The idea for doing a question and answer event like this actually came from Cary Grant many years ago.

  • Her family is what is most important to her.

  • She adores Meryl Streep.

  • When asked what her beauty secret was..she jokingly responded saying, "pasta" and then changed her answer to "I was born beautiful," which certainly got some laughs out of the audience.

  • The best onscreen kisser was Marcello Mastroianni.

  • She said that Carlo Ponti had the kindest eyes and that when she's going through something difficult, she'll think of him and it makes things better.

Learning to sew....

I've been enrolled in a fashion program through Parson's School of Design and one of my recent projects was to design a purse, make a mock version and then a finished product that I could sell. I decided to create a purse that was Stevie Nicks inspired.

I was really nervous about this project. I had never sewn before. In my 21 Things I'd Like To Accomplish Before I Turn 22 post, my first item listed was to learn how to sew.

The purse is in a crescent moon shape and is made out of black suede. I then put lace over it.

I really love the finished product and am proud of myself. I can't wait for my next sewing project.

What did you do over the weekend? I've been traveling. I flew from Las Vegas to Denver. The sunsets here are one of my favorite parts about Colorado.

My Summer In Review

In June, I made a summer bucket list. I only completed a few things on it, but my summer was filled with a lot of fun. Here are some of the highlights!

I planned my 21st birthday party

Made new business cards

Hung out with friends

Went to LA (Blog post on that coming soon)

Went to three concerts.

Traveled to Chicago and Vegas

Went to the cider mill

We tried frozen cider slushies! Yum!

Traveled up north in Michigan to Petoskey

I went to the two vegan restaurants on my bucket list

Chive Kitchen has weekly hot dog specials for $8.00. Their vegetarian chili is amazing. I can't wait to go back.

I have been wanting to try Greenspace Cafe for a while. The owner of the restaurant is a cardiologist and everything is plant based, organic and fresh.

And I finally went to Ikea (That place is huge and the food was delicious)

What fun things did you do this summer? Are you looking forward to fall?

Blog Update - Concert Fun

Happy Tuesday. I hope everyone had a nice weekend...Yes, I am back...It feels nice to be making a blog post.

Life got a little hectic recently and I've been traveling a lot...While I haven't posted in a while, I have a lot of content. I saw both Rod Stewart and Mariah Carey in concert in Las Vegas, and I thought I would share that with you.

I saw Rod for the first time three years ago in Michigan. I was happy to have the pleasure of seeing him again last week. It was such fun concert and we had really nice seats.

I ended up enjoying Mariah Carey's concert more than I expected to. She really gives it her all and it shows.

I went to both of these concerts with one of my favorite people and so that made the experiences even more meaningful.

Also, while on my trip, I met with a friend and she took me to her church, Center for Spiritual Living. I have been interested in attending a Sunday service for years and I am so glad I had the opportunity to go. The church is full of spiritual people who are accepting and loving and the sermon really resonated with me.

And now you're a caught up a little bit on what has transpired this month for me.
Also, my blog is officially a year old! :)

What has been your favorite concert? Who would you like to see, that you haven't already?
